✧ Lapis Lazuli ✧ Freeform Sculpture
Lapis Lazuli generally contains three minerals; Lazulite, Calcite and Iron Pyrite.
Certain varieties of Lapis Lazuli resemble the blue of an intensely clear sky. Hence it’s name ‘Lapis=stone’ and ‘Lazuli=blue/heaven’.
One piece of Lapis Lazuli though may appear quite different from another piece, depending on the composition of it’s three minerals.
Some pieces are indeed intense blue (Lazulite), others may have quite a lot of white (Calcite) in them, whereas more rarer pieces may contain an extra amount of Iron Pyrite which gives them a somewhat earthy look.
But in general the predominant color of Lapis Lazuli is indeed a deep sky blue.
Lapis Lazuli has something so calming about it. As if the clutter of the mind is left behind when we tune into the energy of this crystal.
The deep blue ray of Lapis Lazuli takes us into our third eye, encouraging us to utilize the energy of our ‘chakra of intuition’.
We don’t feel that we loose contact with the body, nor with the earth. It seems that the presence of Iron Pyrite gives us grounding, strength and protection while the Calcite naturally nurtures us and allows us to go with the flow.
But Lapis Lazuli keeps a steady focus, it does what it needs to do and when necessary.
Lapis Lazuli therefore is a great stone to use when we need to alleviate worry and stress.
It has been said that Lapis Lazuli in the ancient Egypt was known as ‘the Stone of Wisdom’.
Lapis Lazuli can easily be used as tumbled pieces; beads; jewelry; wands; display pieces etc.
This can be a wonderful aid for: meditation, spiritual/psychic work, deep sleep or simply for calming and focusing the mind.
Lapis Lazuli is more often available as polished pieces as the polishing strongly enhances it’s natural colour.
